The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs, goals, and the complexity of the issues being addressed. Some clients see improvement in 8-12 sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term support. We’ll discuss your specific situation and create a treatment plan together.

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll discuss your concerns, goals, and what brought you to therapy. I’ll explain my approach and answer any questions you have. This session helps us determine if we’re a good fit and develop an initial treatment plan.

Yes, therapy is confidential with very few exceptions. I’m legally required to report suspected child abuse, threats of harm to yourself or others, or if ordered by a court. Otherwise, what we discuss stays between us. For minors, I’ll discuss confidentiality guidelines with both parents and children.

I accept most major insurance plans. I recommend calling your insurance provider to verify your mental health benefits, including copays, deductibles, and any requirements for referrals. I can provide documentation for reimbursement if you choose to pay out-of-pocket.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. It’s typically more structured and goal-oriented than traditional talk therapy, with practical homework assignments and specific techniques to practice between sessions.

Parental involvement varies based on the child’s age and therapeutic needs. For younger children, parents are often included in sessions. For teens, I typically meet with them individually while keeping parents informed about progress (with the teen’s consent when appropriate).

I understand that life happens and sometimes you need to reschedule. Please provide at least 24 hours notice when possible. Late cancellations may result in a fee. I’ll work with you to find a new appointment time that works for both of us.

Progress in therapy can be measured in various ways – feeling better, improved relationships, better coping skills, or reaching specific goals we’ve set together. We’ll regularly check in about your progress and adjust our approach as needed. Remember that therapy is a process, and some improvements may be gradual.
